Search Google or Type a URL: The Joke’s on You

You might be thinking, “Why in the world is there an article about a crazy, lazy search”?

People do many weird things when they are bored, like:

  1. Picking their nose
  2. Stare at the wall
  3. Stare at the screen
  4. Swiping through TikTok & Instagram Reels
  5. Gossiping about coworkers

And the list goes on…

But the real reason I wrote this article is a long story. Let me take you through it.

Did you know the monthly search volume of “Search Google or Type a URL” is a whopping 156,750 searches per month?

Here is the breakdown of this search volume for some top countries.

CountryAverage Monthly Search Volume
India31,000
USA20,000
Philippines7,100
UK6,000
Source: Google Keyword Planner

Looks like Americans and Indians are the most bored folks out there.

Out of these searches, only 25% – 40% of the people actually click any of the search results (according to Ahrefs)

How bored must people be to type such a long sentence?

You know what I do when I’m bored? Instead of searching long sentences on Google, I play games on Google Search! Search “Atari Breakout” in Google Image search and play this classic arcade game. You won’t be disappointed.

Some Hidden Google Games You can Play when You are Bored

1. Atari Breakout

5. T-Rex Run

The absence of the Internet can make anyone lose their mind and Google knows this! This created the well-known Dino-Run game. This one requires a Google Chrome browser. Sorry, Internet Explorer Lovers ;p

To play, shut off your device’s WiFi or internet connection and open Chrome.

This is not what I’m doing with this Post!

You might have thought this post was all about boredom and Google search games. But you’d be wrong!

Do you know what I’m trying to do here?

I’m trying to rank the keyword “Search Google or Type a URL” with this post. An experiment, sort of!

How I Got this Idea?

I was bored out of my mind and randomly searched “Search Google or Type URL” on Google. Curious about how many others did this, I checked the search volume in Keyword Planner.

I was shocked to see the search volume for the keyword “Search Google or Type URL” and I thought what if I write a post about Search Google or Type URL and rank it up in SERP?

The first result is from Urban Dictionary. They even defined it!

Search Google or Type URL

Search google or type URL is something you type when your life is going nowhere and you have so little going on that you have to type something so worthless. It might also be typed when someone is really bored and on the verge of crossing the plane of existence into a infinite pit of boredom.”

Urban Dictionary

I wanted to experiment with this idea. I want to know how searches and intent for queries like “Search Google or Type URL” perform in SERPs.

Will I be able to rank it? God Google Knows!
